I am having a hard time with the 6-17-06 daily puzzle.

I am as far as
-78-659-4
4-69--7--
-9--4-618
--1---89-
---8-1-7-
827---1--
58--7--6-
--3--45-7
7--65----

the hint for is row 4 column 6 is 7. Why?

Thanks for your help.

The next obvious move is R3C3 is <5>, look at row 3. Then, there is a triple <239> in C5 and B5 which will solve R6C6 and R4C6.

Hi, Nissa!

The short answer to your question about the "7" at r4c6 is that there's a "hidden pair" {4, 5} lying in r4c4 & r6c4.

-- Because of the "4"s and "5"s lying in columns 5 & 6, it's clear that the only way to fit these two digits into the middle center 3x3 box is to place them in column 4. Therefore r4c4 & r6c4 must contain the pair {4, 5}.

-- With this in mind, it's also clear that the only cell remaining in the middle center 3x3 box that can possibly contain the digit "7" is r4c6. dcb
