Oh dear! Another VH that, by the definition we've been accepting for all these years, is not "very hard": needs no wings.

But I found it a delightful "hard": it needs a pair, a triple, and then another pair. Before I found these, I'd made a terrific mess with all my "pencil marks". |

				| Wow! I thought I had screwed up again! That's pretty unusual, isn't it Marty? I've only been following this site for a couple of years but this seems pretty unusual to me. |

				| Don, it does happen from time to time. I don't know the frequency, but it's just enough so it's not a big surprise. If I knew anything about constructing puzzles, I'd have an understanding as to how it happens. I doubt that Sam INTENDS for it to happen occasionally. |

Here is what I have on this puzzle.  I have spent quite a while trying to figure out how to solve this with no avail.  All the comments so far indicate that it is very simple.  Please tell me what I am missing.  Many thanks,  Jeff

I didn't think it was simple; it just didn't require any wings! It's easy to miss. You've got to look a little closer for locked candidates.

Hey, by the way. How did you eliminate the 9 from r7c9?

I'm glad you printed this grid out because I was wondering if it was at around this point that the computer applied a VH move.

Maybe the 379 XYZ Wing with pivot at r1c9? But then again, maybe not since it doesn't appear to solve it. |

				I can't believe I missed the locked 9's in Box 7. I eliminated the 9 from R7C9 using a 679 XYZ pivoted in R4C7.

Many thanks. Jeff |
