hi, I've had a few days off work and decided to become better at Sudoko! It was all going well until today. I am trying to complete the hard classic puzzle from friday 8th march.

I have filled in the first 10 moves in exactly the same way as the hint button suggests me to, but then I get stuck, I can see no further moves after several attempts at looking at it.

The hint button then tells me to to put a 9 in the top right corner of the bottom left square.

Why? why? why? I don't see it at all.

Please help Very Happy

Cheers in advance

Paul

I don't know if your are using pencilmarks or not !
In any case,
    with well identified bilocals (I am using .,-,| under candidates of a bilocal in a box, row, column respectively)
    or by looking at the pattern of givens,
it should not be too difficult to detect
    the hidden pair 57 in column 7 (look at the 57 in the right middle box),
    followed by an hidden pair 34 in the bottom row 9 (look at the 34 in row 8 )
    and a naked pair 57 in row 9 (look at the candidates in column 6).
Code:
+-----------------------+------------------+-------------------------+
| 5     34   347        | 67    467   8    | 2        9        1     |
| 1478  14   2          | 3     5     9    | 6        478      48    |
| 478   9    6          | 2     47    1    | -34(57)  3478     3458  |
+-----------------------+------------------+-------------------------+
| 146   2    148        | 79    3     67   | 14       5        489   |
| 9     5    13         | 8     2     4    | 13       6        7     |
| 346   7    348        | 59    1     56   | 34       2348     23489 |
+-----------------------+------------------+-------------------------+
| 1347  134  -13457(+9) | 1567  67-9  2    | 8        1347     345   |
| 17    6    157        | 4     8     3    | 9        127      25    |
| 2     8    -157(34-9) | 1-57  9-7   (57) | (57-34)  -17(34)  6     |
+-----------------------+------------------+-------------------------+
In short,
    HP(57)C7 :=> -34r3c7 and -34r9c7;
    HP(34)R9 :=> -1579r9c3 and -17r9c8, :=> +9r7c3;
    NP(57)R9 :=> -57r9c4 and -7r9c5;
    Singles to the end.
