a splendid puzzle -- and certainly does not deserve the rating "too hard"

XY-Wing (346); r456c5<>6.

Was that one step too many? I saw stuff after the fact that made me wonder.

Marty,

If you look closely at R6 and B5 you will find a pair 46 in B5 and a triple 246 in R5. The XY-wing is not needed.

I discovered that when I played it again, this time on Draw/Play. I don't know if the puzzle is solvable by basics only, but on Draw/Play I needed a Type 1 UR (57).

Marty,

According to Sudoku Susser:

1 x Comprehensive Naked Sets
1 x Intersection Removal
6 x Simple Naked Sets
12 x Pinned Squares

The last trick is to find a pair 13 in R9. You do not need the very obvious UR.

I do recall a 13 pair. It seems that every time I do a puzzle I get a different result. Embarassed

Thanks.

Marty, It's the journey.

I presume you get the same result, but perhaps by a different path.

Happy New Year!
