Does anyone else occasionally read dailysudoku using an iPad? If so, how do you read the white-on-white hidden text in the [ quote ] tag?

Best I've been able to do is copy&paste into the 'Notes' app. That has gotten old quickly. TIA

I have the same issue when accessing the site from a smartphone. I cut'n'paste as you do.

Just my two bits, but could it be time to discontinue the whiting-out of solutions?

The playing field has changed since the practice was installed. There are legions out there who seldom boot up a pc at all any more. I can imagine first time/casual visitors stopping by with their smart devices and not being able to see anything. They ain't coming back.

If we open a post and find that it contains something we don't want to see quite yet, I think we could figure out a way to accomplish that short of a whiteout.

I never (except maybe once or twice) look at any solution if I intend to work on the puzzle myself, even if it is not hidden.

I am all for dropping the whiteout.

Ted.

I have already stopped using the whiteout because, like Ted, I just don't read a thread beyond the original post until I've done the puzzle. The whiteout is useful only if the first post in a thread contains a hint.

I'm for anything that makes sudoku boards less insular.

It's been a while since I've seen anyone explain to the uninitiated how to view hidden copy. Indiana Jones himself would be flummoxed after finally solving the puzzle of the whiteout only to be confronted by Eureka notation (a puzzle to open a puzzle that solves a puzzle Smile )

My old buddy Udosuk used to use it sparingly, saying something like, "Triple click below to reveal my hint!"

Using an iPad, it is possible to see what's behind the whiteout by using the thumb and index finger to zoom in on the area until you see the outline of the 'hidden' characters.
