The grid after basics looked like one enormous MUG! - but it seemed a tough puzzle with not many moves to play? Two steps but I look forward to seeing the "right" solution.
Quote:
m-wing(78) (8=7)r2c3 - r2c7=(7-8)r3c7=r3c5 ; r2c5<>8
skyscraper(4)[r23c1=r4c1 - r4c8=r1c8]=(4)r2c8 - (4=5)r2c5 - r1c5=r1c2 ; r1c2<>4

I agree with Peter, this was a very interesting puzzle; the grid after basics was somewhat different from the norm.

I have yet to study Peter's solution but I believe my two stepper is similar.

(8=7)r2c3-r1c3=r1c4-(7=6)r3c4-als(6=45)r3c19-(45=8)r3c5; r2c5<>8

Ted, I notice you have been using a lot of anp etc. recently Smile

In this one, I can't see a "colouring" move after the r2c5<>8 - I know it's hard to describe unless you noted an x-chain. I ask because I looked long and hard for some sort of fish/x-chain on 4s and the best I could do was an "almost"...

[Edit] Looked again - and I now see some colouring moves if you play an xyz-wing(56-4)! So I guess the straightforward path is xyz-wing, couple of turbot moves on 4 and an m-wing (or other wing). I am awful at spotting xyz-wings Sad

I reviewed my solution and am unable to determine what happened, except that I definitely messed up either basics or the coloring step.

Sorry about that..............
