W-Wing 67(with two strong links). With SL 7 in row 5 removes the 6's in BOX 1 row 3 and with strong link 6 in col 7 removes the 7's in BOX 1 row 3 and r1c6 which solves it.

Yet another "solves the puzzle" target for these w-wing 67s are the 6s in row 2

George's W-Wing with the strong link on 6 in row 2 takes out the 7s from r3c23.

Or a Finned X-Wing in rows 35 takes out the 7s from r12c2.

The Type 4 UR (also a Type 2, but useless) takes out the 4s from r4c89.

Interestingly, I didn't notice a solution that uses the moves that are required for these puzzles, i.e., X-, XY- and XYZ-Wing, although I didn't look thoroughly.

This may be the "official" solution

XYZ 267 centered in r3c3 followed by a 467 XY wing centered in r3c7 followed by an X wing on 7 did it for me.

Don't know if all those steps are required.

Rows 35 are where my Finned X-Wing was, but for the X-Wing, I haven't found a way to get rid of the 7 from r3c3.

Code:

+------------+-------------+-------------+
| 5 67   8   | 1   4   27  | 69  279 3   |

Marty,

Your grid has quite a few basic moves to make but you can still see the 267 XYZ wing in cells r1c2, r3c3 and r9c3.

This will solve R9c1 and r9c2 as 2 and 6 resp.
That will make r3c3 2 as there are no other 2s in c3

OK, I see my big basics error, not seeing the locked 7s in box 6. That said, it seems that the XYZ-Wing and X-Wing will do it; the XY-Wing wasn't needed, at least when I played the rest of it online just now.

Thanks.

I thought a W-wing was a rectangle of a single digit. How can this puzzle have a W-wing on 67? Thanks

Maybe you're thinking of an X-Wing?

Look at the 67 cells in boxes 1 and 2. And look at the 6s in row 2. If the 6 ends up in box 1, then r1c2 must be = 7. If the 6 ends up in box 2, then r3c5 must be = 7. Thus, with one or the other having to be a 7, they act as pincers and no cell seeing both can contain 7.

How does one clear the '7' from r1c2? What are the steps?

Ema,

In your grid, solve 7 in R3. The puzzle is done.

If you really want to solve R1C2 first, use the skyscraper / kite on 7 in R5 and C6.
