I'm posting this partly in support of a comment to Keith that Menneske ratings don't always match with difficulty. (I think it's one reason why I like these puzzles.) It would be perverse to use DPs here, & so I'm not bothering to post the original.)

I noticed some discussion of xy-loops fairly recently, & so speaking of the devil .... I suspect that people would find this puzzle boring: if you see the xy-loop, that's just about it. If you don't, it's probably dauntingly difficult.

Three questions.

I think that the loop does 6 deletions. Is that right?

It's easy to see in this case that you could accomplish the deletions with three separate chains. Is it always the case that you can split a loop like this?

As a matter of terminology, what exactly is a nice loop? And, come to that, what's the difference between loops & rings?
