I have the following game, it can be solved by color, however, I think most of the color solution can also be solved by the <*>_wing method. I wonder if this one can be solve by wing method

|...|9..|85.|
|.52|...|...|
|...|38.|1..|
|---+---+---|
|.7.|..9|4..|
|...|.3.|...|
|..5|6..|.1.|
|---+---+---|
|..6|.24|...|
|...|...|92.|
|.48|..7|...|

BTW, can someone tell me have to make the display to take on Courier font so my display is not so ugly

At BrainBashers, if you click on "Show Answer" it will explain how the puzzle is solved.

Keith: I believe that kcplayer has solved the puzzle using colors. I believe his question is if there's a "wing" solution.

Code:
 +-----------------------+
 | . . . | 9 . . | 8 5 . |
 | . 5 2 | . . . | . . . |
 | . . . | 3 8 . | 1 . . |

 | . 7 . | . . 9 | 4 . . |
 | . . . | . 3 . | . . . |

 |-------+-------+-------|
 | . . 6 | . 2 4 | . . . |
 | . . . | . . . | 9 2 . |
 | . 4 8 | . . 7 | . . . |
 +-----------------------+

 after basics
 +--------------------------------------------------------------+
 |  1347  36    13    |  9     47    2     |  8     5     67    |
 |  8     5     2     |  47    1     6     |  37    479   379   |

 |  2     4     8     |  5     9     7     |  6     3     1     |
 +--------------------------------------------------------------+
 # 41 eliminations remain

There are several M-Wings that crack this puzzle, but there's also this nice W-Wing.

Code:
W-Wing: (4=7)r2c4 - r2c7 = r6c7 - (7=4)r6c5  =>  r1c5,r5c4<>4

However, it involves the same cells as the Skyscraper on <7> that cracks the puzzle.

Regards, Danny

I can read. The Brainbasher's solution uses wings.

My apologies. The UR and multiple "wing" steps of the BB solution seemed excessive since kcplayer had already solved the puzzle in one step using Colors. So, I erroneously assumed that he was looking for an M/W-Wing that also solved the puzzle in one step.

The UR in the BB solution can be replaced by a W-wing. (It is also a skyscraper.) (It is also coloring on 7, but we can't go there.)

First I like to thank Marty show me the way to display. Keith, I didn't know BB have a detail solution as you point out to me. So another question for BB is. You seem to able to go back to the date (6-9-2010) in this case, how do you do it? daj39376, also thanks for pointing out my intend. don't mean to get you into trouble for I don't know the solution is a wing-ed solution. Lastly, about some term "skyscraper" is not reference to color solution rather than some thing like the solution is confined to N row and N column, anything outside can be excluded. This might sound confusing. I hope most of you understand what I mean. Again thanks for all the responses

Go to http://www.brainbashers.com/sudoku.asp#print
Click on the down arrow next to the date, select "Older Sudoku"
Click on "Go"
Click on the down arrow to select "Jun 9, 2010"
Click on the down arrow to select "6 - Super Hard"
Click on "Go"
Click on "show answer"

Keith

In this puzzle, after basics:
Code:
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 1347 36   13   | 9    47   2    | 8    5    67   |
| 8    5    2    | 47   1    6    | 37   479  379  |
| 479  69   49   | 3    8    5    | 1    467  2    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 136  7    13   | 2    5    9    | 4    68   368  |
| 469  8    49   | 47   3    1    | 2    679  5    |
| 349  2    5    | 6    47   8    | 37   1    379  |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 39   39   6    | 1    2    4    | 5    78   78   |
| 5    1    7    | 8    6    3    | 9    2    4    |
| 2    4    8    | 5    9    7    | 6    3    1    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+

After an X-wing 4 and an XY-wing 34-9 you get here:
Code:
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 1347 36   13   | 9    47f  2    | 8    5    67   |
| 8    5    2    | 47a  1    6    | 37b  479  39   |
| 79   69   49   | 3    8    5    | 1    467  2    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 13   7    13   | 2    5    9    | 4    68   68   |
| 6    8    49   | 47e  3    1    | 2    79   5    |
| 49   2    5    | 6    47d  8    | 37c  1    39   |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 39   39   6    | 1    2    4    | 5    78   78   |
| 5    1    7    | 8    6    3    | 9    2    4    |
| 2    4    8    | 5    9    7    | 6    3    1    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
The UR 13 is in R14C13. Ignoring that, take a look at abcdef. In these cells you can see coloring on 7, a skyscraper on 7, or a W-wing -47. They all achieve the same result.
