Hey!!! My puzzle generator selected a pattern similar to the business end of an arrow.

				Dan,

I assume this is your grid after the xyz-wing on {5,7,8} ?

if so, I don't see the w-wing {2,7}... unless you used another 578 xyz-wing I didn't see.

or maybe the w-wing was extended.

 	  | Code: | .------------------.------------------.------------------.

| 8     5     6    | 2     4     7    | 139   139   13   |

| 9     2     3    | 1     5     8    | 4     6     7    |

| 4     7     1    | 3     9     6    | 5     8     2    |

:------------------+------------------+------------------:

| 2     3     58   | 578   78    1    | 9     4     6    |

| 7     6     4    | 9     3    *25   |*12   *125   8    |

| 1     9     58   | 6     28    4    | 7    *235   35   |

:------------------+------------------+------------------:

| 5     18    9    | 78    1278  3    | 6    *27    4    |

| 6     18    27   | 4     1278  9    | 28    35    35   |

| 3     4    *27   | 578   6    *25   | 128  12-7   9    |

'------------------'------------------'------------------' |

the extended, convoluted w-wing would be marked above.

(7=2)r7c8 - (2)r56c8 = (2)r5c7 - (2)r5c6 = (2)r9c6 - (2=7)r9c3; r9c8 <> 7 |

Norm,

Thanks for keeping me straight. I omitted an x-wing on 2 r67c58

You got to the same place with your convolution. I like it. |

I think I also had a convoluted solution, but it was the entire sequence of eight simple steps. In fact my first step was a x-wing 2 in r67c58 and step 7 was a xyz-wing on 578, so maybe steps two through six were not even required to solve the puzzle.

				| I used the 578 XYZ-Wing, two Type 4 URs on 18 and 35, and an XY-Chain. |
