Ah, it seems we are like that ...

But in a demographic / genetic context, it makes sense: mankind needs only a very few (selected) men to survive and multiply, but cannot spare many potential mothers. If there were a cosmic strategist, I bet he (?, she? it?) 'd be very selective when it comes to removing the lesser fit from the gene pool Very Happy

you are probably more right than you know.
if you do a search for "cat" or research the heritage of cats, you will find that most articles agree on a peculiar fact.
they think that all cats are decendants of a very small group of original prehistoric Felines. in other words, the cat was almost extinct at one point in the earth's history.
they think this because they have found certain diseases and certain other ailments can affect all species of cats.

and

there is the very famous passage in Genesis.
Gen... 1:27 ... "And God created man...
Gen... 1:28... "...Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth."

and

we can't forget that in our history books, it was the mighty cro-magnon man who outlasted/ killed off/ diseased (whatever) the neaderthols.
this solidified our branch of the HOMO SAPIEN TREE.
this also paved the way for modern humans to prosper and multiply without any competition ( from other branches of the home sapien tree).

the bottom line is...
that sometimes species are lost.
sometimes they come close to being lost and come back.
or sometimes we just happen to be on the "lively" side of the tree branch.

and there really isn't anything we can do about it.
