This puzzle may present a challenge. Particularly if you're searching for the Kraken X-Wing lurking in the background. Fortunately, it isn't necessary to solve the puzzle.

BTW: Did you enjoy all of the Naked Pairs during the basics?

this solution is all about the 5's.
x-wing on 5 r16c27
opens up a singles chain on 5
(5)r4c5 = (5)r5c4 - (5)r5c9 = (5)r6c7 - (5)r1c7 = (5)r3c8; r3c5 <> 5
the ensuing strong links on 5 in column 5 help this next w-wing...
extended W-wing on (5,7) in r5c4 and r8c3 via the strong links on 5 in column 5, the extension is on the 7 in box 6.

(7=5)r5c4 - (5)r8c5 = (5)r4c5 - (5=7)r5c4 - (7)r5c9 = (7)r6c8; r6c3 <> 7

A six-stepper, but I think the first two steps made no contribution.

Quote:
XYZ on 457, Type 4 UR on 24, two ERs, both on 5, Hidden UR on 39 and simple coloring on 5 finished it off

I never got off digit <5>. In order, I had a finned x-wing <5>, a x-wing <5>, a finned x-wing <5>, a x-wing <5> and and xy-wing that made a deletion on <5> to finish off the puzzle. I don't recall a previous puzzle where I had several steps, each of which provided deletions on the identical digit only. Smile

I looked for the Kraken x-wing but did not find it.......... Sad

Ted: Since there aren't any 5s in the Givens, you sure made the most of it.

My solver's solution, sans basics, for the puzzle:

Code:
   c27   X-Wing                          <> 5    [r1c3],[r6c38]
         Colors                          <> 5    [r3c5]
   c35   X-Wing                          <> 5    [r4c1],[r8c6]
         XY-Wing  [r4c1]/[r4c5]+[r6c2]   <> 5    [r4c3]

I'm impressed with the interesting solutions everyone is finding in my puzzles Exclamation
