what would we do without URs? the 46 UR type 1 seems to be essential.

And - what would we do without a time machine? I remember the times when it was impossible to see into the future and solve puzzles one week in advance Laughing Twisted Evil Laughing

A kite (4), formed by row 2 and col 9, removes 4 from r9c5.
Bit of cleanup, then:
Code:

+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 7       123     4        | 136     236     5        | 8       9       126      |
| 6       8       123      | 9       234     123      | 7       124     5        |
| 9       5       12       | 146     8       7        | 3       124     126      |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 5       123     123      | 8       7       4        | 9       6       123      |
| 8       123     6        | 35      2359    239      | 4       12      7        |
| 4       9       7        | 36      1       236      | 5       8       23       |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 3       46      9        | 1456    456     16       | 2       7       8        |
| 2       46      5        | 7       46      8        | 1       3       9        |
| 1       7       8        | 2       39      39       | 6       5       4        |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+

The UR 46 r78c25 is obvious. With r7c5=5, things move on. But is there an alternative path?

That's more my cup of tea - an ER here - a UR there - nothing too fancy.

BTW, who won the Canadian election? It was on the 9th Oct.

With r5c5<>5 (as a result of the 46 UR), there is another UR (of the rare type 2):

UR 39 in r59c56,

and 2 is eliminated from r5c2,r5c8,r6c6 (in order to avoid the deadly pattern, either r5c5 or r5c6 must be 2) and the puzzle is solved...

Yes: I found that type 2 too - and I think it was a first. There was also an ER on 4.

Watch that time machine - remember what the Morlocks did (will do) to the Eloi!

Yea, right. But what's a Time Machine, really?... nothing compared to that Seventh Voyage of pilot Tichy!
