While waiting for a VH on this site ...
Code:
Puzzle: BB49114sh
+-------+-------+-------+
| . 1 9 | . . . | 6 4 . |
| 5 . 3 | . . . | 1 . 8 |
| 7 8 . | . . . | . 3 9 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . . | 1 7 8 | . . . |
| . . . | 4 . 9 | . . . |
| . . . | 5 3 6 | . . . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 9 7 . | . . . | . 8 4 |
| 3 . 2 | . . . | 9 . 1 |
| . 5 8 | . . . | 2 7 . |
+-------+-------+-------+
The unusual pattern made me abandon my usual solving sequence.

Enjoy!

Keith

Definitely an unusual pattern. I'm not sure I'm organized enough to have a usual solving technique. But I solved it in four steps.

Quote:
Three colorings (6-4-4) and an M-Wing on 14.

Hm, interesting pattern, indeed. Made me change my routine, too (usually I start by sweeping the floors and dusting the towers, this time I'd go directly for the houses of 8,6 and 5 solved cells).

After basics
Code:

+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 2       1       9        | 38     -58     a35       | 6       4       7        |
| 5       46      3        | 79      469     47       | 1       2       8        |
| 7       8      b46       | 26     b14-6    12       | 5       3       9        |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 6       2       5        | 1       7       8        | 4       9       3        |
| 18      3       17       | 4       2       9        | 78      6       5        |
| 48      9       47       | 5       3       6        | 78      1       2        |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 9       7      b16       | 26     -15-6    125      | 3       8       4        |
| 3       46      2        | 78      468     47       | 9       5       1        |
| 14      5       8        | 39      149    a13       | 2       7       6        |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+

an x-wing (6) in cols 3 and 4 opens
two xy-wings (15-13-35 and 14-46-16)
both achieve the same result, namely r7c5=5.

Yes, I resorted to looking for pairs in the blocks where there are no initial clues.

I believe I used two X-wings and one XY-wing.

I also used two x-wings (on <4> & <6>) and a xy-wing on <135>.

I had no problem with R5C5. Then it was an ER on <4>. An x-wing on <6> and an xyz <125>. Good one for the waiting time.
