A lot has already been written in this forum about the "fancy techniques." Here are some links to information you may find useful.

Good general explanations of solving techniques can be found at SadMan Software and also at rubylips.

Here are some links to discussions on the Daily Sudoku forum.
X-Wing
Swordfish Swordfish Swordfish Swordfish
XY-Wing XY-Wing XY-Wing XY-Wing XY-Wing XY-Wing XY-Wing
Nishio Nishio Nishio
Forcing Chains Forcing Chains
Coloring Coloring
Turbot Fish
I hope that's helpful. If you still have questions after reading that stuff, go ahead and ask again. dcb Very Happy

I have found
http://www.simes.clara.co.uk/programs/sudoku.htm good for clear explanations and diagrams.

Also http://sudokusan.com/ is really useful when you're really stuck - has an "assistant" that suggests next move and explains the logic. Good way to learn.

Good Luck!!! Very Happy
