Found this in the collection, solvable with 7 (maybe less) applications out of x/y/z- or w-wings and skyscrapers. |

Thanks Ravel, a fascinating puzzle. My list of steps:

ER on 9

Skyscraper on 9

X-Wing on 3

XYZ-Wing on 249

W-Wing on 34, with 4 as the pincers

Three separate colorings on the pincers of the above W-Wing. |

Thanks Ravel, for several nice puzzles (after a sudoku holiday). Particularly liked this one & Wings again.

There are single-digit moves, quite common, that don't seem to be easily categorised. Here, either 9 in c1 produces a not-9 in r6c6. One of these is 'proper' ER logic, the other not quite. Disapproved of by theoreticians as being theoretically T & E? |

Nice catch, Victor, i see it as 3 (grouped) strong links.

 	  | Code: | 	 		   *--------------------------------------------------------------------*

 | 5      1      23489  | 7      6     #2349   | 23     2348   2348   |

 | 348    24     6      | 5      1      234    | 9      2348   7      |

 |#349    7      2349   |@349   @2349   8      | 1      6      5      |

 |----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|

 |@489    5      489    | 1      349    7      | 6     #239   #239    |

 | 2      3      49     | 49     8      6      | 7      5      1      |

 | 7      6      1      | 2      5      3-9    | 4     @389   @389    |

 |----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|

 | 1      8      234    | 6      2349   5      | 23     7      2349   |

 | 6      249    5      | 349    7      2349   | 8      1      2349   |

 | 34     249    7      | 8      2349   1      | 5      2349   6      |

 *--------------------------------------------------------------------* |

r1c6<>9 <=> r3c4|5=9 => r3c1<>9 <=> r4c1=9 => r4c89<>9 <=> r6c8|9=9

So either r1c6 or r6c8 or r6c9 must be 9. |
