ravel,

I do not see that an X-wing is needed. (Not that I think this is easy!)

The hardest step may be a quad and quint in C1. I have never seen this before!

Since the puzzle could be all singles, I assume solutions may vary.

Thanks, ravel, for posting this puzzle!

I finally found the leisure I needed to attack this one and it is indeed very hard to do. I had to start again twice (!) because of some stupid mistake. In the end it was the naked quint (36789) in col 1 and a quad (2345) in box 1 that opened the puzzle, but I think the difficulty really lies in spotting the box/line interactions.
