				my recipe:

pluck goose well,

look for the deadly pattern in boxes 2,3 (46, giving 8 in r2c8)

and in boxes 3,9 (12, gives 7 in box 9)

and serve steaming hot.

one could also have used the 35 potential DP together with strong link in 5 (row 5), which makes r5c5=3, but I didn't (no overcooking!) |

Yep, I went the UR path.

One technique did it for me (although I did notice the UR). I used a:

W-Wing or

Remote naked pairs or

Semi-remote naked pairs or

Not-too-far-away naked pairs

Keith, I tried what you mentioned in another thread, only writing in PMs when there were just two candidates. However, after that, I didn't know what to do, so I wrote in the full PMs. |

				Marty,

What I meant was go slow. I usually scan the puzzle twice (rows, columns, boxes) before starting on pm's for two-candidate cells. Then I look for possible pairs and triples, and also box-line interactions. Eventually, for any difficult puzzle, you have to put in all the candidates.

Here's how I see this one:

 	  | Code: | +----------------+----------------+----------------+

| 78   3    78@  | 2    46   1    | 9    46   5    |

| 2    5    1    | 7    46   9    | 3    468  68   |

| 4    69   69   | 35   8    35   | 12   7    12   |

+----------------+----------------+----------------+

| 3    8    26   | 1    27   67   | 5    9    4    |

| 1    69   4    | 3568 39   356  | 7    268  268  |

| 5    7    29   | 68   29   4    | 68   1    3    |

+----------------+----------------+----------------+

| 9    2    37-8 | 36   1    367  | 4    5    78%  |

| 78#  1    5    | 4    37   2    | 68   368  9    |

| 6    4    37   | 9    5    8    | 12   23   127  |

+----------------+----------------+----------------+

 |

There are three UR's: Type 1 on <46> and <12>, and Type 3 on <35>. The last makes eliminations <68> in B5 and <268> in R5.

Or, there is a choice of W-wings @% or #%, each of which takes out <8> in R7C3.

But, I've had those meals. I thought I'd try my new recipe, Medusa Coloring.

Starting in R1C1, color the candidates <8>:

(Click on the image to see a larger one.)

Then, color <7>:

The result is two red <7>'s in C3 and in B7. Blue must be true.

Good recipe. Problem is, W-wing is complaining that Medusa stole the recipe and only added some spice!

Eat well!
