I've been trying March 18, 2007 Very Hard. I've been staring at the thing and I'm sure I've tried every wing or skyscraper possibility - but I can't get past this point. Maybe I can't see the woods for the trees.

The first thing I noticed may not be what the puzzle has incorporated into its construction, but look at the 18 rectangle in boxes 6 and 9. To avoid the "deadly pattern", either r6c8 or r6c9 must be a 7, thus eliminating the 7 from r6c6.

P.S. I just saw your post and I didn't notice that pair either. Now r6c8 must be 7 because the other three corners of the rectangle are 18.

I've cracked skyscrapers, xy wings and xyz wings - but "deadly patterns" and "unique rectangles" are something new. Regardless, it does work.
Thank you Marty.
