From my perspective, this was the most enjoyable one I've seen, because it afforded the opportunity to use a few different techniques. There was a block interaction, a Type 4 rectangle and an X-Wing. Finally, coloring on "2" broke the puzzle open.

Thanks Sam, hope to see more like this one.

I agree. It was very enjoyable and a real workout for the little gray cells. I used the block interaction, hidden pairs and 3 x-wings to solve it. (One of the x-wings I used was on the "2s.")

The only possible positions for 6 in boxes 5 and 8 is in cols 5 and 6 which forces a 6 in box 1 at row 1, col 4. That should get you going again! Good luck

?? I didn't see any X wing or UR, it just seemed to fall out (albeit slowly) from the normal techniques and logic. Did anyone else use the 'advanced' techniques ?

Hm, what gigi described can be looked at using either box/box interaction or x-wing.

Hi all,

I had trouble cracking this one. So I checked out your discussion.
I had never used the x-wing solving technique. I studied your explanations and read some things out on the web as well. Very interesting.

I understood what I read okay and pored over some good examples.
But I couldn't find any place in the puzzle to apply the x-wing -- at least not at the juncture where I stalled out.

Because I was studying the numbers so long looking for x-wing patterns, I stumbled over traditional clues. And in the end, that's how I solved the puzzle.

So, in answer to David's query, no, I didn't use any advanced techniques either, but I arrived at the solution. Hurrah!
