there is an x-wing on 7, doesn't solve it.

the xy-wing 17-57-15 pincers in r4c3 and r1c4 takes out the 1 in r4c4
and that was it.

Yes, there were two XY-wings with pivot R1C3: 457 and 157. But the first of these possibly wasn't even needed.

Peter

P.S. note, I had already eliminated the 7 from R2C2

There are some ER's present in the grid (Box 4 and 5 for digit <7>) and a finned x-wing on <1> that takes out <1> in R9C5, though they didn't have the power to solve the puzzle in one

step, like the [17-57-15] xy-wing that Norm mentioned.

I threw the book at this one - starting with an ER in Box 5 to remove <7> from R6C3 - then an xy wing for <179> - then an wyz wing for <479> - then another xy wing. I also spotted a UR in there somewhere. Though I expect there is a one step solution.

There is an XY wing with 15,57,17 in R1C4,R1C3,R4C3 which eliminates 1 from R4C4. This solves the puzzle.
