I solved the following but I think it was luck/intuition and not logic. Or if it was logic, I haven't a clue why it worked. I intuitively used a type 4 UR on R5C6/7 and R8C6/7. Or maybe it was just luck afterall. Any help?

Code:

+-------------+------------+-----------+
| 1    7    8 | 23  4   235| 569 26 29 |
| 9    25   3 | 6   125 7  | 4   8  12 |
| 25   4    6 | 8   125 9  | 15  7  3  |
+-------------+------------+-----------+
| 7   58   45 | 34  358 1  | 2   9  6  |
| 6   589  459| 24  258 25 | 13  13 7  |
| 3   1     2 | 7   9   6  | 8   4  5  |
+-------------+------------+-----------+
| 8   3    7  | 5   6   4  | 9  12  129|
| 4   6    1  | 9   23  23 | 7  5   8  |
| 25  259  59 | 1   7   8  | 36 36  4  |
+-------------+------------+-----------+

tts,

You need to make sure you put the [/code] at the end of your grid !

Question

Talk us through which pairs make the deadly pattern for your UR..... Question

If that doesn't work, try looking at r3c7 r2c9 and r2c2.....

TTS,

Welcome to this great forum.

I'll be more direct than MM: there is no UR.

You might want to brush up on URs by taking a look at Keith's primer on them at:

okay, I figured it really wasn't an UR. But I appreciate the fact that now I know there isn't one at all. Thanks, Marty.

MM: I tried looking at the xy wings, just couldn't find any that I could work out. I just went back and fiddled around with the cells you gave. Then found another xy wing and it worked out easily. Thanks!

I keep a list of solving techniques on hand. Just can't always see them in the puzzles. Still working on the xy wings---obviously. Wink

Forgot to thank you for the warm welcome. I have been lurking for about a year. Finding lots of help/hints and becoming a rather successful player thanks to all of you!

Well done tts. Sorry if you thought my reply was a bit oblique but I was trying to get into your thought processes there regarding the UR.
