I used two XY-Wings:-
XY-Wing 69 29 26 pivoted in r2c9 sets r4c7<>6 leads to
XY-Wing 27 47 24 pivoted in r4c6 setting r4c4<>2; r6c7<>2 which solves it.

You may very well be correct, but it's usually a good idea to try it again when this happens, just to be sure. On my first pass it was basics only, but on the 2nd try I used the same two wings that Clement did.

After basics:
Code:
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| 3   7   2   | 4   1   89  | 69  68  5   |
| 5   6   4   | 3   7   89  | 1   28  29  |
| 8   9   1   | 5   2   6   | 7   3   4   |
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| 1   8   9   | 267 5   47  | 246 267 3   |
| 4   23  7   | 9   36  1   | 8   5   26  |
| 6   235 35  | 27  8   347 | 249 1   279 |
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
| 7   35  6   | 8   9   2   | 35  4   1   |
| 9   4   8   | 1   36  5   | 236 267 267 |
| 2   1   35  | 67  4   37  | 356 9   8   |
+-------------+-------------+-------------+
Sudoku Susser says two X-wings and two XY-wings, but they are probably not all necessary.

I executed the two XY wings described above, but I can't seem to solve the puzzle. Here is what I get after the two XY wings plus removing a 6 from R8C8 and R8C7 (X wing). I don't seem to be able to finish it up. Could someone please bail me out before I go nuts. Many thanks,

Code:

+----------+------------+-------------+
| 3 7   2  | 4   1  89  | 69  68  5   |
| 5 6   4  | 3   7  89  | 1   28  29  |
| 8 9   1  | 5   2  6   | 7   3   4   |
+----------+------------+-------------+
| 1 8   9  | 267 5  47  | 24  267 3   |
| 4 23  7  | 9   36 1   | 8   5   26  |
| 6 235 35 | 27  8  347 | 49  1   79  |
+----------+------------+-------------+
| 7 35  6  | 8   9  2   | 35  4   1   |
| 9 4   8  | 1   36 5   | 23  27  267 |
| 2 1   35 | 67  4  37  | 356 9   8   |
+----------+------------+-------------+

Jeff, it looks like on the 472 XY-Wing, you missed deleting the 2 from r4c4. Hope this helps you retain your sanity.
