A long process for me:-
1) A kite originating from BOX 7 sets r1c6<>9 opens an
2) XYZ-Wing 14 147 47 with apex in r1c6 sets r1c5<>4
3) UR in 34 removes 4 in r46c2 which opens another kite in 4 originating from BOX 7 setting r1c6<>4 this leads to
4) W-Wing 48 with strong link 4 in row 1 setting r7c1<>8 which finally solves it.

Like Clement, I didn't have an easy time. This is my post-basics grid:

Code:

+--------------+---------------+------------+
| 149 14   8   | 5   4679 1479 | 3   2  67  |
| 2   5    6   | 47  3    8    | 147 9  17  |
| 3   7    149 | 2   469  149  | 48  5  68  |
+--------------+---------------+------------+
| 6   1348 2   | 478 5    47   | 9   34 178 |
| 48  9    5   | 1   478  3    | 78  6  2   |
| 148 1348 7   | 9   2    6    | 18  34 5   |
+--------------+---------------+------------+
| 189 6    19  | 3   89   5    | 2   7  4   |
| 7   2    49  | 6   1    49   | 5   8  3   |
| 5   48   3   | 478 478  2    | 6   1  9   |
+--------------+---------------+------------+

Play this puzzle online at the Daily Sudoku site

I couldn't find any of the VH moves other than an apparently useless 148 XYZ-Wing. I used overlapping ERs on 49 to remove those two numbers from r1c6, setting up an XY-Wing (174) which removed 4 from r1c5 and from r3c3 after a pincer transport. The 34 UR, originally a Type 4, is now a Type 2 and finishes it off.

Why is the XYZ-wing useless? It eliminates 8 in R6C2. It sets up an X-wing that solves the puzzle.

Overkill of course, but ...

An M-wing nails it. After basics:
Code:
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 149  14a  8    | 5   -4679 1-479| 3    2    67   |
| 2    5    6    | 47e  3    8    | 147d 9    17   |
| 3    7    149  | 2    469  149  | 48   5    68   |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 6    1348 2    | 478  5    47   | 9    34   178c |
| 48   9    5    | 1    478  3    | 78   6    2    |
| 148b 1348 7    | 9    2    6    | 18   34   5    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 189  6    19   | 3    89   5    | 2    7    4    |
| 7    2    49   | 6    1    49   | 5    8    3    |
| 5    48   3    | 478  478  2    | 6    1    9    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
1 in a forces 1 in b, c, d. Not 1 in d forces 4 in e, making the eliminations shown.

It obviously isn't useless, but my analysis was. I just eyeballed it for apparent help and didn't carry it as far as an X-Wing search.

Like Clement I used the kite and the XYZ wing, but, the third step for me was a finned X wing in 4. This solved th puzzle.

I used the 14 in r1c2 (first doublet in the grid) If 1 then r4c9 is 1 directly and if not 1 than the 8s in boxes 7,8 and 5 fall out immediately and lead to r4c9 <>8 hence r3c9=8 AND A SOLUTION . I thought this was an act of desperation but if I can call it an M wing then great!
