I really enjoyed this puzzle....

1. AUR58 r13c39 with x-wing 8 overlay; r1c39<>5
2. x-wing 4 r18c37; r1c8,r8c5<>4

3. At this point I once again have a step of questionable validity: a Almost XY-loop (AXY-loop)

If the xy-loop is true then r2c9,r8c59<>9

4. If the above is valid, I finished the puzzle with a BUG+1 which forces r7c8=9

So, let the fun begin; the shooting gallery is open...........

Almost works, but so does short and naked.

(9=4)r3c8-(4=6)r1c7-(6=9)r5c7 =>r5c8<>9, singles.

Update: available after the AUR.

I decided to stick to the technique guidance on this - so advanced moves only...

Four steps... [Edit] judging from Lukes post (1) and (3) werent needed!

I sadly didn't but found a lot of fun with my first "double ALS" takeout. At least I think it is..could be an invalid move....

As usual, a picture is worth a thousand words:

ALS XZ with double elimination



X={2,4,5,8,9} Orange
Z={2,6} Green
Restricted common can be 2 or 6
Common candidate eliminateds are 2 and 6 from r3c8


Then it is the <469> XY wing as already shown.

I don't follow this. should it be:

Z={2,6} Green


In any event, R2C2 = <26>. In B1, the other <26> can only be in R3C12, making a pseudocell that forms a pair with R3C5. Thus, R3C8 is not 26.

Does this have a name? It seems fairly simple.

Thanks for picking up the typo Keith. I will amend. As far as I know it is an ALS XZ elimination as set out if memory serves by Myth Jellies.

[Most of the ones I've used/seen hitherto have been single digit eliminations or multiple eliminations of a single digit - this one has two different digits.

I used the implications of the 58 AUR to solve a few cells. After that it became a Type 4 UR on 58 and an XY-Wing (469) finished it off.
