An authentic VH. Coloring would not solve it. But an xy-chain did. Either the (12-18) which eliminates the 8 in R8C4 or (7-8-1-2) which eliminates the 2 in the same cell, R8C4, will do it in one step.

PS I missed the (128) xyz-wing. Duh!

Not sure that I can agree it is that complex. A xyz-wing <128> with pivot in r8c4 is all that is required.

I used the XYZ-Wing to finish it off. But before that I played two W-Wings which apparently weren't needed to set up the XYZ.

I'm with Ted. One-step xyz wing, and it was even easy to find.

Not sure which W-wings Marty found, but the one I see produces the
same elimination as the XYZ and breaks things free.

My turn to be the dummy who can't see the obvious. This is as far as I got - there must be more eliminations but I cannot see them. Can someone help please!

Thank you wapati. A case of the bleeding obvious unseen by the bleeding stupid!!

Funny thing though, this solves the puzzle and I had reached the place posted above without using any advanced techniques. Possibly I jagged a lucky mistake. Will try it again when my head is clearer.

Thanks again.

Just for the record - I did this puzzle again and came up with the same solution as Ted and Wendy. My first attempt was appalling, with mistakes both before and after wapati helped me out. Note to self: don't try sudokus on a Monday morning with a foggy head.

Cheers
