OK, thanks, I see it now. The word "kite" threw me off and I kept looking at box 3 based on my understanding of what one is. Despite some of the terminology used, it looks to me like ordinary multi-coloring starting in row 8.

Kite with an extension? |
Dan, a funny thing happen on the way to solving this puzzle. My first move was also a kite with extension (transport, coloring) to delete the <6> from r4c3. However, my kite was in b8(a,b) with pincer in r9c9 transported to r1c3 via r1c9. Kool first move ...........

After the eliminations described above by daj95376, there is some simplification and then an obvious X-Wing. After that, one gets here:

I reached the same stage as noted in the code posted by Asellus plus a deletion on <9> at r6c8 using multi-coloring, but I missed the great final transported kite on <9>.
I finally finished the puzzle with a chain, a w-wing and multi-coloring. I am now exhausted and am off to bed!

hm. Slowly catching up with some of the puzzles here...
This one is special in that it starts off with an advanced move. No preliminary elimination, no hidden or naked singles, pairs, nothing.
Had to fill in all the PMs. Rainy day indeed.
In the initial grid, I used (multi-) coloring to remove 6 from two cells: r3c1 and r4c3:
