Marty,

Thanks. I guess I don't understand the difference between an X-Wing and a Unique Rectangel (UR), if there is one.

I got stuck and asked for a hint. The program gave me 5 in R5C9. I found the UR (X-Wing) but I thought that only let me eliminate 1s inside of the rectangle. Is this correct? Otherwise, what is th ...

That is odd. If I use auto play mode, that is, if I keep asking for hints, that is the 5th move the program makes. I don't understand the logic, either. How, BTW, did you know to play the 8 in R6C5 ...

I usually use the traditional techniques, too, but I couldn't have solved this puzzle withoout the X-Wings.

Keith,

I know X-Wings, but URs are new to me. Are they the same thing with different names?

Once again, I don't understand the hint. After 22 moves, I got stuck and asked for a hint. It was 7 in C4R2. I had candidates of 2, 3 and 7 in that cell. Do the 2 and 3 some drop out? My other 7 ...

eddieg,

Darn. I see it now. I was looking the wrong way. I was counting the 3s up in R1-R3. I guess I learned something. Thanks.

Nenthorn,

A tripple in column 7? No. In that column I have a pair of 13s and a pair of 79s. Did you mean column 8 by any chance?

I got stuck fairly early, after only 16 moves, so I asked for a hint. The move was a 4 in R1C2. I had both a 3 and a 4 in that cell and I don't understand why the 3 goes away.

Thanks, Chuck. I see it when you point it out, but they (X-Wings) are not something I usually look for and I'm not good at spotting them.

I played 16 moves and then got stuck, so I asked for a hint. The program gave me 9 at C4R1. I was hoping that I would see the logic to the hint, but in this case, I don't. Can anybody explain it?

Charles,

I am still having problems seeing how the 2s in block 7 are restricted to R9C1 and R9C2. I think they probably are, but there seems to be a missing step somewhere. What I see when I look a ...

I'll have to study it some more, since I still don't understand it. I agree with guest about the linked pairs, I found them, too.

Charles, the hint was for a 2 in block four, not block 7, but thanks ...

I was trying to play the May 23 puzzle, but I got stuck, so I asked for a hint. The program gave me: 2 at R6, C3. I don't see the logic (if I did, I wouldn't have needed a hint). Can somebody expla ...

Thanks to both of you. I am new to SuDoku and to this forum. It was the 48 pairs at (R7,C5) and (R8,C5) that I didn't realize I could use.

I got stuck fairly early. I tried the site's Play option for the first time to get a hint. It told me to play 5 at (R8,C1) but I don't understand the logic to the move. I had located my 5s in row 7 ...
